5 Essential Steps to Prepare Your AC System for Summer

Summer is here, and it is time to prepare your air conditioning system for the heightened heat and humidity so you can stay cool and comfortable throughout the season. Countryside Plumbing & Heating, Inc., a trusted provider of energy-efficient air conditioning units, shares five essential steps here.

  1. Check the air vents. Air vents distribute cool air throughout your living space. If these vents are blocked by rugs, drapes or large pieces of furniture, the flow of air will be obstructed and the rest of your home will not be properly cooled.

  2. Change the air filters. Air filters trap dirt, dust, pollen, pet dander and other airborne contaminants so they do not circulate in your cooling system. Don’t forget to clean or change your air filters regularly.

  3. Inspect the outdoor unit. Check your outdoor air conditioning unit, also called the condenser, and make sure there is no buildup of leaves, twigs and debris that could block the equipment’s airflow. Check for missing panels as well. Without these panels, the electrical connections within your equipment are exposed to the elements.

  4. Check the refrigerant lines. This component should be properly insulated to control moisture, icing and surface condensation. If you believe that your refrigerant lines need additional insulation or if the existing insulation on your refrigerant lines needs repair, contact a professional.

  5. Check the electrical wiring. If you see signs of wear and tear or any damage on your outdoor electrical wiring, have a qualified electrician inspect it before using your system.
